Cody Dixon Team Match Rules
as modified for the
Willow Hole Cowboys Team Cody-Dixon Match July 30, 2011

       1) We will follow the SASS dress code except that short sleeve western/cowboy
           shirts will be allowed.
       2) Rear sights must be period correct (1860-1899) and may be either barrel mounted or a tang mounted sights.
Front sights may vary from simple blades to hooded types with interchangeable inserts.
Spirit levels are okay. No optical sights are allowed.
       3) Rifles must be of a design and a model readily available prior to 1899.
          a) Lever actions must be tube fed, with an exposed hammer.  Marlin 336’s
              and 1895’s will be allowed.
          b) Single Shot Rifles must have an exposed hammer.  Spring-loaded ejectors
are not allowed, except for Trapdoors. 1871 H&R’s with extractor not
ejector will be allowed.  No Savage 99’s, Ruger #1’s, or any “Little Sharps”
              rifles allowed.
       4) Rifle cartridges must be of at least .30 caliber and be a center fire, rimmed rifle cartridge that was readily
available prior to 1899.  The 30-30 Winchester, 32 Winchester, 38-55 Winchester, 40-65 Winchester, 43 Spanish,
and 45-70 Govt. are a few examples.
       5) Smokeless or black powder are allowed.  Duplex loads are OK for black powder.
       6) Bullets must be all lead.  Paper patched or gas checks are OK.
       7) All Rifle shots must be fired off-hand.  No leaning, supporting, or resting is allowed.
       8) Each stage will require a total of six rifle rounds.
           a) Ammunition for single shots may either be staged, loaded from stock mounted loops made of period correct material,
               or loaded from the body.
           b) Lever action rifles may be loaded with six rounds at the loading table or from the body on the clock at any time during the stage.
       9) Target distances at WHC will be 70 to 125 yards.
      10) Any SASS approved main match pistol or shotgun may be used.  In addition, period correct Winchester ‘97 or Marlin 20 gauge pumps
and the New 1893 pump shotguns may be used.
      11) Each team will have four members.  Of the four shooters two must  shoot lever action rifles and two must shoot single shot rifles.
Shooters may share rifles, but a shooter must shoot the same type rifle for the  entire match.  To encourage competition between
clubs it is strongly suggested that each team member should be a member of the club their team is representing.
       12) All team members will automatically be entered into the individual competition for either lever or single shot rifle.  Individuals not
on a team may enter to shoot under the individual category for either lever or single shot rifle.
